Chinese New Year

Chung Tian Temple lights up for Chinese New Year 2018 to celebrate the Year of the Dog, offering a traditional and unique alternative to the New Year celebrations in the city. Take a trip to this beautiful temple oasis and it's just like spending a day in Asia.

The New Year period is a major cultural holiday throughout Asia, when families pay tribute to ancestors and celebrate the good fortune of a new year (with red lanterns hung from windows to ward off bad spirits) and the beautiful Chung Tian Temple and its grounds are abuzz with the festivities that date back thousands of years.

The two major events not to be missed are:

Feb 15th  – Chinese New Year's Eve

The celebrations kick off at 6pm with a spectacular Chinese Food Fair and live performances, with the Opening Ceremony of Exhibition at Art Gallery at 7pm, a Light Offering Service at 8.30pm, Lion Dances at 9.30pm, Morning Chanting at 11pm and Ringing the Blessing Bell at midnight.

Feb 25 – Cultural Open Day Food & Fun Fair  9.30am -3.30pm

Sunday is fun day at Chung Tian, with the opportunity for all ages to experience Chinese culture up close, including a Food Fair, Tea Ceremony, Lion Dance, Tai Chi, Cultural Performances, Childrens Activities, Art Exhibition, Meditation and intriguing Tours of the Temple. Schedule of main events: 10am - Dog Blessing for the Queensland Police Service (QPS) Dog Squad, 11am- Multifaith Prayer and Music Concert, 11.40am - Lion Dance & Kung Fu performance, 2pm - Baby Blessing Ceremony, 2.30pm - Lion Dance.
