Camille O’sullivan

Brisbane Powerhouse

Those in the know will need no introduction to Irish-French songstress Camille O’Sullivan, and those who don’t know her will probably be hearing much more of her very soon.

Renowned for her unique dramatic interpretations of songs by artists such as Nick Cave, David Bowie and Radiohead, O’Sullivan is bringing her acclaimed show to the Brisbane Powerhouse on 30 and 31 January.

Music critics have been trying to outdo each other with superlatives to describe O’Sullivan’s album, Changeling, with The Telegraph’s Neil McCormick saying, “A one-off, there is no-one like Camille in popular music today”. The album, as well as featuring the quirky covers, has three original songs including one written especially for the singer by Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody who says, “Camille is one of the most original female voices of the last ten years.” The Scotsman’s reviewer said of O’Sullivan, “A cross between Sally Bowles, Patti Smith and P.J. Harvey… a major star.”

Camille O'Sullivan

With her performances described as an emotional rollercoaster, O’Sullivan’s unique music and delivery is difficult to classify as a genre or style as she transports her audiences with her “fierce, playful and totally mesmerising” renditions of songs. Her voice has an enormous range of tone and power that is highly emotional and evocative, winning her various “Best Music” awards.

Another string to her bow is winning the prestigious Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh International Festival for her solo performance in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Rape of Lucrece, which she scored with original music.
