Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium

If you haven’t yet checked out the wonders that can be found at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium, make sure you do soon. As well as being able to take a tour through the universe in the Cosmic Skydome – a special circular theatre with a 12.5-metre dome and star projector systems. All films will also feature a projected Night Sky Tour in the theatre and will be about 45 minutes duration.

The Planetarium is screening several space films, including Cosmic Collisions screening now at selected session times, and narrated by Robert Redford. A stunning visual show from the American Museum of Natural History in New York, the film shows destructive cosmic collisions releasing energy that drives the growth and evolution of the universe, thus shaping humanity’s place within it. Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium

Dark Universe narrated by American astrophysicist and cosmologist, Neil deGrasse Tyson, will show you recent dramatic advances in our knowledge of the universe, including dark matter and dark energy, and will explore the future of cosmology. Session details here

Moons: Worlds of Mystery will look at stunning graphics of various moons and their landscapes in the solar system. You’ll learn what moons reveal about the history and workings of our solar system and see amazing images of volcanoes, geysers, ice-covered oceans and methane rain. Session details here

All of the above are general audience shows suitable for ages six and up, and parents are advised not to bring younger children who can’t sit quietly for the duration of the film. If you have younger ones, check out the Planetarium’s Kids’ Programs on offer.
