Camerata - Sisters

Concert Hall, QPAC

Camerata - Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra - returns to QPAC on Thursday, August 29 for an unmissable performance with Sisters featuring internationally-renowned violinists and siblings Sarah and Monica Curro.

Following a sold-out performance at QPAC earlier this year and a 2019 Helpmann Award nomination for Sara Macliver in Concert with Camerata, Camerata returns to the main stage with Sisters.

Daughters of John Curro, legendary founder of The Queensland Youth Orchestras, the Brisbane-born sisters Sarah and Monica will perform as soloists together for the first time on the Concert Hall stage. Both violinists are currently full-time members of Melbourne Symphony Orchestras and perform in orchestras around the world, for almost every national ensemble.

This special concert celebrates old and new with the iconic Bach Double concerto (affectionately known as Dark Bubble) and a recent work for two violins and strings by Richard Mills, a distinguished Toowoomba-born composer.

The program also includes a splendid trademark performance by Camerata's fine musicians. Performing without a conductor, Camerata’s string players have established a reputation for exciting performances which engage audiences of all ages. This concert will be no different with Camerata performing Schoenberg's Transfigured Night, one of the most passionate, sensual and gripping pieces in the entire string orchestra repertoire.

In addition, Camerata will once again reveal a mystery wild card guest, in what has become a well-known and much-loved moment of Camerata's main stage performances. The wild card segment promises to showcase the best emerging artists in Australia.

Join Camerata in August along with internationally renowned sisters Sarah and Monica Curro for this season’s highly-anticipated performance.

Nice to know - The concert will also be performed in Toowoomba at the Empire Church Theatre on August 27.
