L’amante Anglaise (The Lover of Viorne) is a must-see murder mystery performed live on stage at QUT Gardens Theatre on Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29.

Adapted from a novel by famous French author Marguerite Duras, this award-winning production will take you inside the heart and mind of a murderer. Based on a chilling true story of a brutal murder in a small French town, the crime and its perpetrator are quickly revealed to the audience. The captivating tale revolves around the killer’s motive.

A dismembered body is dropped from a railway viaduct onto passing trains below… all except the head. Structured as two intimate interviews – one with Pierre, and one with Claire - the dialogue is simple, direct and poetic, a style for which Duras was noted, and seeks to answer the one question we all ask when confronted with a disturbing truth. Why?

L'amante Anglaise stars two of Australia’s most experienced actors working at the peak of their craft, Rob Meldrum as Pierre and Jillian Murray, in her Green Room award-winning role, as Claire. Two ordinary humans leading everyday lives until a gruesome murder is committed.

Over the course of the drama, the loveless couple effortlessly reveal the beauty and brutality of their inner selves, and create a beautifully poignant and emotionally powerful portrait of lost passion.

Directed by Laurence Strangio, L’amante Anglaise has enjoyed sold-out return seasons in Melbourne at La Mama and fortyfivedownstairs. Don't miss the chance to see this compelling, modern psychological thriller when it comes to QUT Gardens Theatre.

Need to know - L'amante Anglaise is recommended for ages 15+.
