Big Skies Festival
Western Downs
Big Skies is a fantastic 9-day festival celebrating the sights, tastes and unique experiences of Queensland’s Western Downs region, from Saturday April 27 to Sunday May 5.
Set on the stunning Jimbour Plains, three hours west of Brisbane, Big Skies kicks off with the iconic Dalby Picnic Races, a Western Downs tradition since 1902.
During the festival, visitors can tour the heritage-listed homestead, Jimbour House, catch the sale day action at Dalby Saleyards, and enjoy the ultimate paddock-to-plate experience at a Long Lunch in Dalby or Miles.
When the sun sets, gather round the campfire and experience old-fashioned country hospitality at the Camp Oven Experience, watch a movie on the big screen at the Outdoor Cinema, or witness the stunning starscape in the night skies.
The festival's signature event, A Day on the Plain, takes place on Saturday, May 4, when thousands of music lovers converge on Jimbour Plains, in the shadow of majestic Jimbour House, for a spectacular Aussie rock concert. This year's stellar line-up includes Jon Stevens, John Paul Young, Ross Wilson, Pseudo Echo and Deni Hines.
The party continues back at the campsite with the Day on the Plain Late Show, headlined by talented local musicians. Then on Sunday morning, visitors can enjoy a hearty Camp Breakfast before exploring the regional hub of the Western Downs with a day of festivities in Dalby.
