GRAPE THERAPY HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

Grape Therapy Wine Merchants and Drinking Den is a bespoke underground wine shop and bar that channels Dean Martin and has airs of an old-fashioned gentlemen’s club.

Like most good things in life it isn’t easy to find, being down in the no-man’s end of the Brisbane CBD and with only a doorway and small sign marking the spot. Here’s the place to leave the world behind up at street level for a time where Shirley and Dean ruled and life was about drinking fine wine and conversation.

Owner of the establishment is Darren Davis, who for many years operated Bar Barossa across the road and it is his knowledge and love of wine that is behind this drinking den with its curated wall of renowned aged wines of various vintages for sale.

Wine, all of which is for sale at retail price, can be bought and taken away or, for a surcharge of $20 per bottle, drunk in the lounge. This means bar patrons can have a night out drinking fine wine for half the price than at most other establishments. And the lamp and candle lit lounge, with its mahogany Chesterfield couches, décor of brass and wood and table games is an inviting place to hole up with friends for an evening.

As well as wine there’s a range of quality spirits – whisky, rim and cognac - perfect for drinking neat a la Dean.
