Yami Japanese is a cute little Asian eatery in Underwood dishing up home-style Japanese fare from sushi and sashimi to sizzling teriyaki hot plates.
Located adjacent to Hotel HQ, this hidden gem offers indoor dining – beneath pretty cherry blossoms – or al fresco undercover.
Snacks and light meals range from edamame and agedashi tofu (deep fried tofu) to takoyaki and gyoza (steamed, pan-fried or deep-fried). Otherwise, there’s fresh sashimi and sushi rolls.
More substantial meals include donburi rice bowls with your choice of chicken karaage, curry or katsu don, stir-fried, thick udon noodles with teriyaki sauce, and sizzling dishes of grilled meat or salmon with Yami’s house made teriyaki sauce served on hot plates with stir fried vegetables and bowls of rice.
The best value for money though and a stand out on the menu is Yami’s home-style bento - a special wooden bento jam-packed with Japanese favourites like crunchy tempura veges and seafood, sushi, salad, pickled seaweed, rice and your choice of teriyaki chicken, salmon, or unagi (eel), and chicken katsu or karaage.
