Christian Jacques Artisan Boulanger

Kangaroo Point

Updated: Mar 19, 2026

Christian Jacques Artisan Boulanger is a tiny gem of an authentic French bakery, tucked away under the Story Bridge in Kangaroo Point.

The smell of hot baked bread wafts out from the tiny blink-and-you-miss it boulangerie, the only one in Brisbane to have its ovens just inside the shop, where customers can actually view the bread and pastries being baked.

Baker and owner Christian Jacques hails from Paris and his delectable breads and pastries are the absolute real deal, baked onsite every morning using ingredients all imported from France.

Here’s the place to pick up traditional French breads including baguettes and batards, as well as  seigle (organic rye), stone ground (organic signature) and cereal (multigrain) loaves.

Croissants are available plain, almond, chocolate or almond and cheese and there are also fruit danishes and the must-try Breton specialty – Ka (kouign amann) – a crisp, sweet and buttery Breton specialty that is like a cross between a croissant and a brioche.

Other sweet pastries on offer here include melt-in-the-mouth vanilla and chocolate eclairs tartes aux framboise (raspberry tarts), lemon meringue or chocolate and orange tarts, amandine (pear) tarts, chocolate brownies and mille-feuille (rich layered vanilla custard slice).

Need to know – Get in early for the croissants, which on weekends can often be sold out by 9am. Otherwise they can be pre-ordered to avoid missing out.

The menu may have changed since our visit.
