(the View) From Here: A Small Perspective On Big Ideas

Metro Arts

If the idea of risky, hot, contemporary art from across the nation appeals to you, don’t miss (The View) From Here: A Small Perspective on Big Ideas taking over the historic Metro Arts building from 7 – 10 June.

The takeover is an intimate and unique experience where you’re invited to escape the monumental, with solo work, intimate engagements and participatory experiences to stimulate the mind and soul.

(The View) From Here: A Small Perspective on Big Ideas

With 15 artists across 18 events over four days, (The View) From Here… offers audiences and participants a program including the interestingly titled Wank Bank and Pussy Play, both taking place in the Sue Benner Theatre. The latter won Best Interactive Show at the Adelaide Fringe in 2017, and both promise to give you playful tips to please yourself or that someone special! Probably not for the shy or easily offended.

Then there’s the quirky The Garden of Shatrick, where semi-naked and blindfolded Shannon Tonkin and Patrick Gaia explore a reversal of the Adam and Eve tale with themes of love and transcendence using sculpture, performance, music and video. There’s nudity and it’s rated 18+.

If those don’t sound up your alley, perhaps award-winning artist Martyn Coutts’s Shell Game is intriguing enough for you to explore. You’ll go and find him in a secretly disclosed location where he’ll do a tarot reading on you.

Or if you’d prefer making interactive artworks move, check out Social Structures. The set looks like a construction site with BDSM sensibilities, and there you’ll see Tayla Haggarty’s work which considers the politics of lesbian sexuality and relationships. Works made of industrial materials and found objects are also on offer from Kinly Grey and Anna McMahon, where they have melded disparate materials to create sculptures and situations that foreground relationships.

All this and a whole lot more is on offer so check out the PROGRAM.
