Toowong to West End Bridge
Updated: Oct 22, 2026
Plans for a new pedestrian and cycling bridge connecting Toowong, West End and the Kurilpa Peninsula are gathering momentum, with an updated business case set to explore how the project could improve Brisbane’s cross-river connections.
The proposed bridge would link the Kurilpa Peninsula with Toowong railway station, the Regatta ferry terminal and the Bicentennial Bikeway, giving residents easier access to public transport, jobs, education and some of Brisbane’s most popular lifestyle destinations.
The project comes as Brisbane’s inner-city population continues to grow, with more than 6,000 new homes in the pipeline across Kurilpa alone. By 2046, almost 100,000 people are expected to live in the suburbs surrounding the planned bridge, more than double the population considered when the original business case was developed in 2021.
The updated business case will consider population and employment forecasts, travel demand, potential designs, construction methods and project delivery stages. It will also draw on lessons from Brisbane’s newer river crossings, including the Kangaroo Point Bridge, which has recorded more than five million trips since opening.
The proposed bridge is the third and final pedestrian and cycling crossing put forward under Brisbane City Council’s Bridges for Brisbane program.
While construction is not yet confirmed, the proposed bridge could offer another way for Brisbane residents to travel between the inner-city suburbs, helping create a more connected community with greater alternatives to driving.
