Alamanda Palm Cove

By Lancemore

Tropical resorts don’t get much better than Alamanda Palm Cove by Lancemore, a beautiful beachfront oasis that holds the prime position in North Queensland’s exclusive Palm Cove.

The upmarket hideaway of one, two, three and four bedroom apartments set in lush tropical surrounds is Palm Cove’s only true oceanfront accommodation and one that seamlessly manages to be both a romantic retreat for couples and an ideal holiday stay for families looking for something out of the ordinary.

As well as the spacious well-equipped apartments with pool or ocean views, the resort facilities include 3 swimming pools, an indulgent onsite spa with rooftop cabanas and private plunge pools* (see below for more details), and one of the best fine dining restaurants in North Queensland.

Rooftop spa room with plunge pool and view of Palm Cove beach

Nu Nu, with its bifold doors and deck opening onto the palm-fringed beach, is the perfect spot for a sunset cocktail and exquisite lunch or dinner prepared by one of the region’s top chefs. The kitchen at Nu Nu is also behind the In Room Dining at Alamanda (available daily 7am-9pm), so those who don’t make it there for the meal can still be treated to its delectable fare.

As well as its many physical attributes, what makes Alamanda Palm Cove a standout is the friendly can-do service and the little touches that make for a memorable stay. The scene is set when guests are greeted at arrival with a tropical mocktail; to avoid the hassle of having to go supermarket shopping on arrival, guests can order the food for their stay online at Coles Clifton Beach so it is delivered and unpacked by staff prior to check-in.

Along the beachfront are sun lounges and hammocks strung up between palm trees that are dedicated for guest’s use. At the exit to the beach adjacent to the spa there’s a small stash of buckets and spades for smaller in-house guests, in the reception area is a well-stocked DVD library and table games that are free to borrow, and a pillow library for that perfect night’s sleep.

Opposite the reception area is a permanent marquee come reading lounge where guests can relax with a complimentary morning paper and in one of the breezeways between buildings is a ‘book exchange’ operated on an honesty system. And during peak family visit times (school holidays) the pool areas have complimentary noodles, lilos and fun stuff for children to use.

For couples, Alamanda Palm Cove is hard to beat in the romance stakes. A gorgeous beachfront chapel (one of only a few in Queensland) is the perfect place to begin married life and for others there are opportunities aplenty to reconnect and have some we-time.

Try a his’n’hers massage on the rooftop at the spa, lounge around the adults-only pool or share a hammock under the palm trees followed by an intimate dinner at Nu Nu’s. For something really special guests can book a rooftop pavilion with plunge pool for sunset drinks and tapas or a romantic dinner for two.

For a true indulgence book one of the premium suites such as the Alamanda, a roomy four bedroom apartment that comes complete with its own BBQ deck and private plunge pool/spa. This is also a great one for an extended family and friends get together.

Nice to know – A well-stocked mini-bar (which can be upgraded to add premium products on request) and Nespresso machine can be found in all apartments.

Need to know – Transfers to and from Cairns airport (approx. half an hour each way) are available to all guests – bookings can be made at reception. Local buses to Cairns city run regularly from a nearby esplanade stop (about 20 min trip) stopping at major landmarks and attractions. Palm Cove itelf s a lovely compact village with eateries, boutiques, bars, mini supermarkets, pharmacies etc , and a patrolled netted beach all accessible by foot.

Must Do whilst staying at Alamanda Palm Cove – Lunch or dinner at Nu Nu. Breakfast, lunch or dinner at Vivo Bar & Grill. Alamanda Spa session. Sunset walk along the esplanade. Heavenly gelati from Jack & Shanans, a poolside gelateria and creperie.

*Alamanda Spa – This would have to be one of the best located spas on the Australian East Coast and a must try if staying at the resort. Tucked away in the Alamanda Palm Cove grounds, the ground floor consists of several suites (each with an outdoor courtyard with bamboo shower) for those booked in for one of their luxuriant body scrubs, wraps (try the decadent Chocolate Truffle Wrap) and facials, while upstairs a small series of rooftop pavilions with infinity pools look out to the ocean through the palm trees and it is here that clients enjoy massages followed by a dip in the pool and a Zen cup of tea.
