Highgate Hill is home to some of Brisbane's landmark heritage buildings, including Torbreck, the first residential high-rise to be built in Brisbane (prospective buyers were flown in a helicopter over the site to get a glimpse of what their view would be like) and Toonarbin, which was built in the 1860s by early settler Captain O'Reilly.
