The Straddie Hotel
North Stradbroke Island
Updated: Jan 08, 2026
North Stradbroke Island has welcomed back one of its beloved institutions with The Straddie Hotel, after a redevelopment that brings the pub into a new era while preserving the unmistakable soul of the island.
Long known as the beating heart of Point Lookout, The Straddie Hotel blends surf culture, relaxed island living and a vibrant social energy, cementing its status as a community hub and a must-visit destination for visitors. It remains a place where locals gather, holidaymakers return year after year, and everyone feels at home from the moment they walk in.
The bistro menu celebrates classic pub fare with island flair and generous portions including island-sourced oysters and other fresh local seafood. Highlights include fish tacos, prawn & bug cocktails and sweet-spicy chicken wings, alongside hand-stretched pizzas and staples like chicken schnitzel, beach fish and chips, and beach burgers. The grill turns out flame-grilled chicken and Black Angus rump, while lighter options include the daily market fish and vibrant summer bowls.
There will also be a kiosk opening during the summer months for early morning beachgoers and surfers featuring breakfast staples and coffee.
Signature cocktails include the Straddie Island Iced Tea, Coco Margarita and a rotating Slushie of the Month. Guests can enjoy local beer including Straddie Brewing Co plus a selection of easy-drinking wines and classic tinnies.
The redevelopment introduces a collection of new and refreshed spaces designed to bring guests closer to the ocean and each other. Highlights include a breezy upper deck, a second bar right in the heart of the action, a reimagined bistro and main bar, and an expanded all-weather deck with panoramic views made possible by the addition of an operable roof system that lets the sun in but keeps the rain out.
The Headland Room has been redeveloped as a beachfront space overlooking Cylinder Beach, complete with its own sunset balcony bar. Perfect for celebrations, it now hosts up to 120 seated or 250 cocktail-style. On select evenings, it will also open to the public for a dining experience with unbeatable views.
Designed by KP Architects and culture agency, Example, every corner of the new Straddie Hotel evokes the nostalgia of a Queensland beach summer. Think sun-washed colours, terracotta and green tones, crochet accents, bamboo blinds, tropical greenery, vintage surf posters, mosaic tabletops, rattan lounges and nostalgic memorabilia.
With refreshed family-friendly spaces and a packed calendar of live music and events showcasing local talent, the pub once again anchors the island’s social heartbeat.
The venue will continue its longstanding support of major island events, including the Straddie Salute and the Straddie Invitational, alongside ongoing community initiatives that celebrate the culture and people of North Stradbroke Island.
