Whisk And Ladle

Milton

Whisk and Ladle Cafe is a hidden gem of a slick modern all day breakfast and lunch cafe tucked away in a side street behind Milton’s Park Road.

Here everything –sauces, sweet treats, ice-cream, aioli etc - is baked and made from scratch (except for some of the artisan bread) and the coffee is up there with the best you’ll find in this neck of the woods.

For breakfast there are delicious dishes such as New Yorker buttermilk waffle sandwich with maple bacon and sunnyside egg, Potato Rosti and Haloumi Stack (with sliced avo and poached egg) or Lazy Man’s Omelette – 2 eggs pan-fried with chorizo, cherry tomatoes, goats cheese and a touch of chilli.

From the All Day menu (served until 2pm) diners can choose from something lighter such as the highly recommended Amazon Power Acai Bowl (featuring the delicious house-made almond and coconut granola with fresh seasonal fruit), or the House Granola with sweetened Greek yoghurt, poached pear and seasonal fruit, or a Bacon and Egg Roll.

For something more substantial there’s Corn and Zucchini Fritters with poached egg, Buttermilk Ricotta Pancakes with house-made ice-cream, maple syrup and berries; Caramelized Banana Waffles with rose ic-cream, maple syrup and coconut or the Whisk and Ladle Big Breakfast with the works.

Must try is the New Yorker Waffle Sandwich – Buttermilk waffles, maple glazed bacon, gruyere cheese and sunny-side egg, drizzled with maple syrup. one of Whisk and Ladle's hottest sellers. For lunch it’s hard to go past the delicious Yiros – slow-cooked lamb, marinated chicken or grilled haloumi with warm Pita bread, lettuce, tomato and parsley topped with tzatziki and chips.

Otherwise there’s a choice of Calamari, Chicken Caesar or Thai Beef salads; Chicken or Haloumi Burger with chips and aioli or a Cuban Pulled Pork Burger on brioche bun with apple slaw, onion chutney and chipotle mayo.

In addition behind the counter you’ll find wraps and rolls, frittatas and a daily gourmet salad and a host of sweet stuff such as rice pudding, baklava, carrot cake, chocolate brownies and New York cheese cake as well as jars of cookies, bliss balls and fresh-baked scones and muffins.

Coffee at Whisk and Ladle is tops, with a choice of Byron Blue Coffee Reserve single origin or The Colombian Reserve blend (PNG, Brazilian, Ethiopian and Colombian), while the tea on offer is a selection of loose leaf Paddington Tea; and for something cold there’s a selection of smoothies and frappes.

Need to know – It’s easy to drive past Whisk and Ladle Cafe, which is tucked away on a corner underneath a recently built commercial tower. Look for it opposite Bunker and the Fortuna Workout Centre.

The menu may have changed since our visit.
