The Kitchen

Old Government House

Updated: Aug 04, 2023

A gorgeous cafe and restaurant, The Kitchen has made its home within the heritage-listed walls of Old Government House at QUT Gardens Point.

Located in the western wing of the landmark historic building, the cafe has courtyard seating while the indoor dining rooms, which overlook the courtyard, are reserved for a more premium dining experience.

The cafe offers a more casual dining experience yet with a gourmet menu that includes quiche, zucchini fritters, rigatoni pasta, ocean trout crostini and custom daily salads with Lady Bowen dressing, along with tasty snacks like muffins, cheese platter, scones with jam & cream or the Kitchen's signature Lamington.

In the charming old world dining rooms, you can enjoy a more formal lunch (bookings essential) with entrees like crispy bug or chicken croquette; mains such as Stockyard beef terres, smoked aubergine or Forest mushroom rolled chicken; and desserts of espresso hazelnut mousse or lavender creme caramel, with a wine list to accompany.

And once a month on Sunday you can partake in an elegant high tea befitting Lady Bowen, featuring a range of freshly brewed teas, finger sandwiches, hand-crafted sweet & savoury pastries, a glass of champagne or juice on arrival and a selection of one of otheir  quality, barista-made hot drinks.
