Motorwagen is a stunning contemporary café, restaurant and bar found in Brisbane’s CBD, offering a refined dining experience without pretence.
Named after the world’s first petrol powered car, patented by Karl Benz, Motorwagen is a collaboration between restauranteur Sam Pask (Otto Brisbane, Urbane) and Mercedes-Benz.
This stylish city eatery is striking with an industrial chic fit-out – think exposed brick and concrete. Customers can dine al fresco on the terrace overlooking Adelaide Street or in the sophisticated dining room with burnt orange banquet seating.
The innovative menu, created by Head Chef Dylan Cashman (Paper Daisy, The Blue Door on 5th) features modern classics with a creative twist.
All-day fare breakfast fare ranges from croquet madame on housemade sourdough with gruyere cheese, organic leg ham and free range fried egg, to coconut milk pancakes with slow roasted pumpkin ice-cream and burnt red gum honey; while standouts on the menu include chicken dumplings with soy poached egg in dashi broth and the divine dessert–like Motorwagen muesli - puffed quinoa, coconut parfait, Jerusalem artichoke caramel sorbet, organic blueberries, plum puree and poached rhubarb.
Lunch options, served from 11:30-3, include Glasshouse Mountain free range chicken breast, Mighty Clarence kurobuta pork cutlet, and Rangers Valley wagyu rump.
Dinner service is available Thursday to Saturday with mains the same as lunch. In addition, there are small share plates – such as southern-style chicken with housemade fermented chilli, and charcoal roasted miso Mooloolaba king prawns - and larger plates like braised New England lamb shoulder.
Motorwagen boasts Brisbane’s first state-of-the Modbar espresso and pour-over system by La Marzocco, with locally roasted Blackstar Coffee on pour. Otherwise, there are specialty lattes, organic loose leaf teas, classic fruit juices and kombucha.
Motorwagen is fully-licensed with local craft beer on tap (Semi Pro, Stone & Wood and Newstead), classic cocktails and a carefully curated, concise wine list.
Nice to know – A private dining room is available for functions with vintage inspired Mercedes-Benz murals painted by a local artist.
