Ze Pickle
Fortitude Valley
ZE PICKLE IN FORTITUDE VALLEY HAS CLOSED IN FEBRUARY 2024.
Ze Pickle, the uber decadent burger joint and bar that has left Burleigh Heads in a pickle, has set up shop in Fortitude Valley.
Tucked away in a commercial side street of warehouses and loading docks, Ze Pickle is a funky dim lit den of ambient mood lighting, street art and crafted furniture, with an open air astroturf entrance on one street and a mystery art-covered foyer on the other.
As well as being the source of Brisbane’s most indulgent and flavoursome burgers along with luscious cocktails and craft beers, Ze Pickle makes a great late night place to nestle in and refuel after a night on the town.
The comprehensive burger list, which is not for the faint-hearted, encompasses a whole lot of Beef (made from hand pressed wagyu mince), ranging from the Chee-ze (beef patty, tomato, jack cheese, fried onion straws, pickle ketchup and zp sauce, through the 3am (beef patty, maple smoked bacon, Kanye’s fried cheese sticks, guacamole and zp sauce), the Oak Wood Smoked Brisket Burger (made with 12 hour smoked brisket, house made mac’n’cheese, Mum’s slaw and fried onion straws), through to the absolute mother of all burgers that would have had Elvis flying in from Memphis - the Triple Loco: 3 wagyu beef patties, triple jack cheese, triple maple smoked bacon, pulled pork, smoked jalapenos, iceberg, tomato, zp sauce, fried onion straws and slaw served between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches.
For chicken lovers, there’s the Southern Hick (crispy fried chicken, maple smoked bacon, jack cheese, iceberg, tomato and zp sauce or the K F Ze (crispy fried chicken, smoked jalapenos, ipa beer, cheese sauce and mum’s slaw), for pork fans the Pulled Pig (10 hour low and slow cooked pulled pork with mum’s slaw and zp sauce) and vegetarians are catered for with the Mac Burger Pro – grilled mushroom with garlic butter, Kanye’s fried cheese sticks, pickle ketchup, zp sauce, ieceberg lettuce and tomato.
For something different punters can order a Cronut burger (house made cinnamon cronut with beef patty, cheese, Nutella bacon and maple syrup) or the 4.20am – a crispy fred chicken burger with double jack cheese and smoked honey on bacon laced waffle buns made from mac’n’cheese. And if there’s any room for dessert, go for the Oreogazm (deep fried oreos in doughnut butter with Messina gelato and liquid Nutella) or Zessina (peanut butter gelato with fudge sandwiched between house made cinnamon cronut and set in Milky Bar dip, rolled in crushed oreos).
Ze Pickle is not just a burger joint, it’s a pretty cool bar too, with a range of craft beers on tap by the pint, some local (from Green Beacon and Newstead Brewing Co) and from further afield (Stone and Wood, 4 Pines, Mornington and Mountain Goat) and a rarity – Lobethal Bierhaus Chocolate Oatmeal Stout.
A decent wine list incorporates Sparkling from Italy, France and Spain and a range of red and white varietals from SA, NZ, WA and Argentina.
Cocktails at Ze Pickle are well worth a look too, with twists on classics like the Bacon Old Fashioned ( based on bacon spiced rum), BloodZe Mary (Jalapeno infused tequila) and Fruit Salad Margarita along with some cool creations like Hood Juice, Bubba Hubba Hubba (wild grape bubble gum vodka base), Luv U Long Time (using top yum infused vodka) and the refreshing Gin Cummins (west winds sabre gin, fresh basil, cucumber and lemon and rosemary sizzurp).
