Woodblock Cheese
Bardon
WOODBLOCK CHEESE HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED IN 2018.
Woodblock Cheese is a charming little artisan cheese shop with a European flavour, tucked away on Bardon’s hilltop shopping strip.
Owned by friendly and knowledgeable cheesemaker Margie Parsons, Woodblock stocks an impressive mix of Australian (especially from SA) and European (Swiss, Irish, UK, Dutch and French) cheeses, including varieties you won’t find elsewhere in Brisbane.
Amongst the selection is a gorgeous pink French cheese L’Affine au Champagne Rose (rind is soaked in rose champagne) and creamy Affedelice (with chilli-soaked rind).
Here you’ll also find an interesting array of blues, semi-hard and washed rind cheeses, along with haloumi, buffalo mozzarella and gorgonzola piccante.
As well as a great selection of sheep and goats cheese (including Wyngaard aged goats cheese), here’s a rare place to pick up a mixed milk blend of goats and sheep cheese (known for its unique flavour).
To complement the cheese, Woodblock has all the ingredients for a great cheese board (including gorgeous hand-made boards, made by a local craftsman from recycled timber), such as pates, fruit pastes, salumi, prosciutto, pancetta, lavosh, Birehong (a Swiss pear reduction that makes a delicious accompaniment) ligurian olives, Barossa Bark and water crackers.
There’s even quaint little cheese forks and knives with hand-stamped handles from Durham.
To get further acquainted with everything cheese, a small range of cheese books, including cookbooks are available.
