Velvet Rewired

Wynnum Fringe Festival

UPDATE 10/9/21: DUE TO ONGOING INTERSTATE COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS THE SHOW WILL NO LONGER GO AHEAD AT WYNNUM FRINGE FESTIVAL. THE PLAN IS TO RECONVENE AND REVISIT IN THE LATTER HALF OF 2022 AT A DATE TBA.

Brisbane, get set for a glittering spectacle of circus and cabaret, featuring the divine Marcia Hines, when Velvet Rewired opens in the Raine & Horne Wynnum Spiegeltent as part of the Wynnum Fringe Festival on November 17, 2021.

Since its world premiere in 2015, born in the sequins and disco dust of Adelaide Fringe Festival, this original big, bold and beautiful extravaganza has travelled the globe to thunderous applause and sold-out performances. Six years later and 1200 shows on, from the Sydney Opera House to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, this disco-fuelled cabaret spectacular is back!

This fresh, revamped, reinvented version of Velvet Rewired continues to chart the progress of a young man on his path of self-discovery.  He returns to the club known as ‘Velvet’ and is again embraced by its inhabitants.  Blind to colour, creed, class, gender, size and sexuality, Velvet Rewired continues the underlying theme of celebration, family and freedom.

Led by the fabulous Marcia Hines (Jesus Christ Superstar, HAIR), Craig Reid (La Clique, La Soirée) returns as the Incredible Hula Boy and DJ Joe Accaria (Once, Dream Lover) stars as DJ and mix-master, joined on stage by a dazzling array of acrobats, aerialists and vocalists.

It's a euphoric dose of disco fever peppered with glitter - not to mention a killer disco soundtrack that will have fans boogying all the way to wonderland.

All this in an age of uncertainty and compromise, Velvet Rewired is a story of hope, resilience and bravery as the production rolls the dice on recovery, ticket sales and a future for Australian theatre.

Velvet Rewired has always been a nightclub, a state of mind, a fantasy, and an insatiably flawless theatrical experience filled with glitz, glamour and jaw-dropping circus skills. So, hit the club for an exhilarating night of fun, funk and fabulous music.
