Velvet
Cremorne Theatre
For an absolutely dazzling boogie wonderland-style cabaret show, get yourself along to the award-winning VELVET at QPAC's Cremorne Theatre.
The show, which won Best Cabaret and Best Return Season at the 2016 Adelaide Fringe, has been a huge hit at the Edinburgh Fringe, with The London Times saying, “This trip to Boogie Wonderland is a gold-plated hit”.
Australian critics are also impressed, with words such as “exciting”, “engrossing”, “intelligent” and “fabulousness” being bandied around.
So if you’re up for a dose of Studio 54-esque disco, sequins and unadulterated glamour combined with sensational acrobatics, VELVET guarantees satisfaction… and maybe even a few shocks. The story is about a young ingénue (singer/songwriter Brendan Maclean), who slips behind the red velvet rope at the VELVET nightclub and is seduced and transformed.
Australia’s first lady of soul singing, Marcia Hines, is on board, making the admission price worth it. There’s also Hula Boy extraordinaire Craig Reid, muscle man Stephen Williams, acrobatic star Mirko Köckenberger, aerialist Emma Goh, and more including a live DJ and musicians. The show is directed by Craig Ilott.
