My Brilliant Divorce
QUT Gardens Theatre
My Brilliant Divorce is a witty, one-woman play about divorce starring acclaimed actress Mandi Lodge in the role made famous by Dawn French in London's West End, playing at QUT Gardens Theatre for two shows only on July 17 and 18.
Written by Irish playwright Geraldine Aron, this 'stand-up tragedy' takes a light-hearted look at the perils of growing older together - or apart - as a desperate divorcee adjusts to life as a party of one.
According to Aron, the story of a middle-aged women adapting to single-life after divorcing her love-rat husband, was rejected by book publishers for being too Bridget Jones-y. Undeterred, Aron instead crafted the tale into an endearing, funny play; to arguably greater success.
The play has been performed all over the world and is currently enjoying a record-breaking 17-year-run in Prague starring the same actress; while a feature film adaptation, Brilliantissime, premiered in France in 2018.
Soul-baring and heart-warming, My Brilliant Divorce subtly examines the absurdities of life and love through comedy. Newly-single Angela (Mandi Lodge) is left to deal with an empty nest, a disapproving mother, a misogynist lawyer, some dubious counsellors, a bad case of hypochondria and the possibility of poverty. But, if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry.
So, with only the family dog, Axal, for company, Angela mourns her marriage, picks up the pieces, and learns to live whole again.
Don't miss it!
