Macondo

Salisbury

MACONDO HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED AS OF JUNE 2022.

Macondo is a leafy little slice of Colombia, hidden in the backstreets of industrial Salisbury, serving authentic Colombian cuisine.

Passionate about sharing their love of Colombia with their customers, owners Miriam and Jaime invite diners to take a culinary journey from the jungles of the Amazon to the snow-capped Andes and the jewelled seas of the Caribbean.

The menu, ordering and payment is contactless and, for convenience, all done online. This means that customers can, via their phones, view, choose, discuss and order the menu items either in advance or when they arrive. View menu HERE

Prepared by a Colombian-born chef and served by friendly Spanish speaking staff, there are more than 80 regional Colombian dishes on offer and a range of cocktails, mocktails and beers unique to Macondo.

Brunch includes Huevos Desmechados (scrambled eggs and pulled pork) and El Maximo – a big breakfast of fried eggs, grilled haloumi, chorizo, bacon, beans, rice and arepa.

Vegan fare ranges from vegetarian burgers wedged between two arepas or vegetarian lime soaked hearts of palm in a ceviche. Try a golden Andean salad or delicious, hot soup such as Sopa de Lentejas – baked lentil soup with puff pastry lid.

For meat lovers, there’s Bife de Chorizo (thick porterhouse steak with chorizo, papas and salsa) and Lechona – a traditional Colombian dish of slow-baked pork crackling stuffed with rice, peas, corn and barbecued pork.

Seafood dishes include Gambas al Ajillo (king prawns in red wine with garlic and chilli), Mojarra del Magdalena (strong flavoured river fish) and Trucha de los Andes (whole rainbow trout lashed with secret sauce and served with coconut rice, patacones and salsa).

Traditional desserts include El Dorado (baked figs filled with arequipe and wrapped in gold leaf), Platano Maduro (ripe plantain baked with guava and caramel) and the Colombian delicacy Hormigas Culonas (ants in sweet lime toffee served with cream).

On the drinks menu there’s Colombian hot chocolate, Colombian jungle juices (lulo, guanabana and guava) creative cocktails and Club Colombia beer. The owners also love to give away single-origin high-altitude Colombian coffees or Tintos to their customers.

Macondo also has an exciting event space, Macondo Jardin - a magical garden-inspired space which is available for private functions and kitchen hire. If you need a casual kitchen for your food delivery business, then Macondo Jardin has the perfect full commercial kitchen available.

Good to know – Macondo offers a wide variety of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan dishes. All of the in-house menu is available for takeaway and there is also a home catering menu and even a snack-at-home menu.

Need to know - Macondo is open for brunch/lunch on Saturdays from 10-2 and dinner on Friday/Saturday from 5-9pm. Reservations are essential.
