La Scala Ballet
Lyric Theatre Qpac
Italy’s illustrious Teatro alla Scala Ballet (La Scala Ballet) will perform for the first time ever in Australia – and only in Brisbane - at QPAC from November 7 to 18.
As part of the Queensland Performing Art Centre’s 2018 International Series, this is a real coup for QPAC. La Scala, one of the oldest and most-renowned ballet companies in the world, will perform two much-loved classics - Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote and the beautifully haunting Giselle – with music performed live by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
Australian audiences will have the rare chance to witness some of the world’s best ballet dancers live on stage including La Scala’s Principal Dancers Nicoletta Manni, Claudio Coviello and Timofej Andrijashenko; joined by David Hallberg Principal Dancer at American Ballet Theatre, Leonid Sarafanov Principal Dancer at Mikhailovsky Theatre and Maria Eichwald Principal Dancer at Stuttgarter Ballet.
Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote (one of La Scala’s signature pieces) will showcase stunning choreography and virtuoso performances. Based on Cervantes’ classic novel, audiences will be transported to a bright and enchanting Spain complete with gypsy dances, fandangos and matadors.
Giselle, the quintessential classical ballet, will enthral audiences with its tragic story of an innocent peasant girl who dies of a broken heart upon learning her beloved is engaged to someone else.
These mesmerising performances will be enhanced with a program of events and activities including conversations, masterclasses, exhibitions, access to dress rehearsals for students and more.
Nice to know - Regional Queensland will also have an opportunity to see La Scala Ballet perform on Saturday, November 10 through the Live from The Lyric Queensland simulcast.
Need to know - Don Quixote is being performed on Nov 7-11 & 17; Giselle is being performed Nov 14-16 & 18.
