Hops Scotch And Beans

Petrie Terrace

HOPS SCOTCH AND BEANS HAS CLOSED ITS DOORS PERMANENTLY TO BE REPLACED BY COOL NEW KID ON THE BLOCK JESSIE'S GIRL.

Hops Scotch and Beans, the other cool café bar from Brisbane’s revered Brew group, has taken up residence in a refurbished historic shop on Petrie Terrace.

By day Hops Scotch and Beans is an all day brunch and coffee hang-out and from mid-afternoon the music cranks up, the beers start flowing and the delicious tapas menu of small and medium share plates make their debut.

Patrons can pull up a bar stool on an al fresco bench or head inside to the dim-lit dining lounge in the cosy shop interior. Here, the backlit wooden bar takes centrepiece, overlooking some low slung couches and a handful of tables and chairs.

Annexed to the main room is the in-house roastery where Brew’s very own coffee brand Louie Louie, a deep, rich flavoured blend suited to an all day cuppa is roasted. Along with the house blend, two single origin beans are on rotation and cold press is also available.

And on the other side, linked by a rear corridor (or via a black front door to the street), is Hops Scotch & Beans secret whisky lounge with book shelves, lamps and vintage leather couches and armchairs.

In true Brew form, the food menu at Hops Scotch and Beans is simple, delicious and beautifully presented, with brunch items including the popular Breakfast Roll – toasted brioche bun filled with two poached eggs, bacon, watercress and hollandaise, Avo on Toast with dukkah and goats milk cheese, Jamon and Cheese quesadillas with creamed avo and lime or, for something light and lunch-like, Pan-fried broccolini with chats, almonds and buttermilk dressing.

From 3pm the share plates kick in, with Spanish Meatballs, Combo of House Dips with crusty bread, charcuterie or cheese boards and pulled pork sliders, along with small plates of dukkah haloumi, house fries with wasabi mayo or chicken drummettes with coriander aioli.

To accompany there are 7 craft beers on taps including some from local brewers Green Beacon and Newstead Brewing Co (try the 21 Feet 7 inches), a selection of boutique wines and premium spirits, with an emphasis on whisky ( a fine stash of single malt, Irish and US) and rum.

Barman mixing cocktail behind the bar

Meanwhile house cocktails are on the classic side – think Aviation (popular gin cocktail), Manhattan and Sazerac.

Nice to know: Owner Brett's other venture is Brew in the Brisbane CBD's Burnett Lane.
