Future Beauty: 30 years of Japanese Fashion HAS CLOSED. of the most stunning exhibitions to grace the galleries of GOMA. The collection of some 100 garments, curated by esteemed Director of the Kyoto Costume Institute Akiko Fukai, showcases the extraordinary innovations of Japanese fashion from the early 1980s to today, and the enormous impact Japanese fashion designers have had on world fashion.
The works of revolutionary designers such as Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto, who have shaped the way we view fashion today, will be exhibited alongside those of Kawakubo protégé and techno-couturier Junya Watanabe, ‘Ura-Harajuku’ movement leader Jun Takahashi and radical designers of the new generation: Hiroaki Ohya, Akira Naka, Tao Kurihara, Matohu, Hatra and mintdesigns.
Included in the exhibition’s showing in Brisbane are a host of exciting events:
Up Late – The popular Friday after dark viewings of GOMA’s exhibitions, with live music, bar and bites to eat will see Future Beauty Up Late from 5.30-10 on Nov 21, 28 & Dec 5, Jan 23 & 30 and Feb 6 & 13.
Fashionista Lunch Package – Enjoy a sublime two course lunch at GOMA restaurant, with a glass of Yarrabank Cuvee and dessert of caramelized chocolate with cherry textures inspired by the designs of Koji Tatsuna and created by QAGOMA executive chef Josue Lopez.
