Fortitude Valley

THE FLYING COCK HAS BEEN REPLACED BY THE COOP BISTRO IN 2017 AND AWAITS A NEW REVIEW.

The Flying Cock has ruffled a few feathers with its quirky addition take on the boutique food and bar scene in Fortitude Valley.

The industrial chic joint sets itself up as chilled out metropolitan pub, only this time with all the frills of a hip boutique eatery minus the price tag and the dress code.

The dining areas of The Flying Cock are decked out with playful squiggly light strands, bar top potted plants, eclectic dining chairs and hip black and white celebrity photography.

The long bar is fully stocked with craft beers, bottles of champagne, fresh cocktail ingredients and barista made coffee for those who need that extra cock-a-doodle-doo.

Despite the relaxed and welcoming service and cool atmosphere, the food is the real charmer with what’s cookin’ good lookin’ on everybody’s minds.

While the portions are as massive as typical pub meals, it is the quality of the ingredients that really stands out. The loud crunch of the house cut plugga fries and onion rings and the secret sauces and spices sets The Flying Cock apart from any other pub in the area.

Meanwhile, the quirky names encourage a few puns between mates, making it the place to be for an all-round good time.

Ask the wait staff to throw another corn on the barbie to accompany any chicken dinner and settle in with a few beers down in the main restaurant.

On a Friday and Saturday night, head upstairs to the open room with hand nailed planks of wood and hanging rope that gives off a nautical vibe. Grab a shot of rum or whisky from the hanging bottles, kick back at the pool tables, listen to live bands piked by the staff who know more than a thing or two about good tunes and sail away into a great night.

The Flying Cock Fortitude Valley's dining area

The Flying Cock is an upmarket Aussie pub, not an exclusive bar, welcoming everyone for a cheap and tasty feed to match the fully stocked bars. The industrial chic hangout is a lunch, dinner and late night joint that knows how to give Brisbane a good time.

Need to know: At the time of writing in August 2014 The Flying Chook currently offered a half cocked menu. The full menu will be released towards the end of September and will feature whole chooks with varying sides for sharing.
