Einstein's Universe

Concert Hall Qpac

Particle physics can be fun. No, really. And you can join the fun in the stunning performance of QSO Einstein's Universe, where young virtuoso violinist, Jack Liebeck, interweaves his magic with science presented by particle physicist and music lecturer, Professor Brian Foster of Oxford University.

QSO Einstein's Universe

As part of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Journey Through the Cosmos series of concerts, this performance at 6pm on Friday 7 November, features an illustrated lecture that will cover topics from Einstein’s Theory of Relativity to the Large Hadron Collider and the Higgs Boson. If they’re foreign terms to you, don’t fret as the lecture will no doubt fill in the blanks.

And just why are Einstein’s thoughts being linked with violin music? Well, it was the scientific innovator and violinist’s favourite instrument, with a quote from him saying, ‘If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music, I live my daydreams in music, I see my life in terms of music.’

QSO Einstein's Universe

This lecture has been toured around the world to great success and acclaim, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to see a completely different side to both music and science and their remarkable relationship to each other. Audiences who’ve come to see Liebeck’s artistry playing pieces by composers such as Bach and Mozart have been delighted to also learn about the world of particle physics through the music that Einstein himself used to love to play.
