Sunshine Coast Art Prize Finalist David Hayes presents his third solo exhibition Brave New World at Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley from November 8-26, 2022.

Following on from two sellout solo exhibitions, Brisbane artist David Hayes tells his story – a chronological depiction of life events at a point in time during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Through his paintings, Hayes examines the relationship between the global and the personal strength and vulnerability and how they are linked.

‘The story is mine, but as always, seeks to find common ground by some invisible thread, with the viewer’, says Hayes.

Artworks with a glossy veneer and a bright candy palette provide the viewer with an initial sense of familiarity and fun, often belying the deeper narrative of subject matter.

David Hayes artwork is rooted in popular culture stylistically but explores the changing themes of masculinity via representations and contrasts of theme and colour.

His influences include traditional figures of the pop art movement such as Warhol and Lichtenstein, yet he continues to evolve his style with influences of current artists.

Need to know - An exhibition opening will be held on Friday 11th November, from 6 - 8pm with the artist in attendance. David Hayes will also present an Artist Talk on Saturday 12th November from 2pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for art lovers to learn more about his practice as he discusses his inspiration and techniques.
