Colombian Independence Day Festival
Fortitude Valley
Brisbane’s all-ages Agulia Colombian Independence Day Street Festival brings a lively and vibrant burst of South American colour and culture to Fortitude Valley on Sunday afternoon.
This family friendly fiesta, held on Ballow St outside the GPO*, celebrates Colombia’s elevation to a self-governing republic after the uprising against Spanish rule that occurred in capital Bogota on July 20 1810.

To mark the occasion the event will be a traditional street festival style affair with Colombian food, drinks (think Agulia, Aguardiente and Gaseosas Colombianas), dancing and music (live bands and DJs), hosted by Colombian Ambassador Daniela Pinoa and local lads Kip and Luttsy from Nova.

To keep the party goers fuelled up, authentic food includes Colombian BBQ, Spanish Paella, empanadas and other delicious morsels from Latin Delights (Davies park markets stalwarts), Evo Colombian restaurant (La Fonda Colombia) and Latin Bakers.

Need to know: Gates open at 12pm until late. Children are welcome, with those under 13 admitted free while those aged 13-17 must be accompanied by an adult.
*GPO is a local haunt for Colombian students with its Casa Latina (Latin House) the local go-to for Latin American food, cocktails and music.
