Handel's famous masterpiece, The Messiah, will be performed by the Queensland Choir chorus, soloists, and a professional orchestra in this special classical music concert, set in the splendid surrounds of Brisbane City Hall on Sunday, December 18, 2022.

A significant date for the Choir - 18 December, 1872 - the first-ever Queensland Choir concert was staged and the Choir would like to celebrate this special anniversary by performing one of their signature events Brisbane Sings Messiah.

The Sinfonia of St Andrew orchestra have been invited to join the Queensland Choir for the special performance, which has become a Christmas tradition for Brisbane residents.

With its blazing trumpets, thundering tympani, and thrilling Hallelujah Chorus, Handel's great choral masterpiece offers a magnificent combination of theatrical effect and spiritual reflection.

The Queensland Choir's 150 voice chorus will be accompanied by guest soloists Leanne Kenneally-Warnock (soprano), Hayley Sugars (mezzo-soprano), Sebastian Maclaine (tenor) and Leon Warnock (baritone), joined by the fabulous Sinfonia of St Andrew's orchestra, and conducted by Kevin Power OAM.

The Queensland Choir has been performing since 1872 and is now regarded as one of the premier large choirs in Australia. The choir is made up of 150 volunteer choristers from a wide range of backgrounds. The choir has performed regularly with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, the Sinfonia of St Andrew's orchestra, other orchestras and instrumental groups, and also collaborates with other choirs in and around Brisbane.
