BrisAsia Festival 2019
BrisAsia Festival 2019 brings three weeks of contemporary and traditional Asian arts and culture to Brisbane with some 100 fantastic events.
Now in its seventh year, the popular festival is held in various venues across Brisbane, including SunPAC, Visible Ink, Musgrave Park, QPAC, Queen Street Mall, Seven Hills Hub and more. While most events are free, there are some ticketed events with a cost.
Highlights include the Symposium on 1 March (in partnership with QPAC), and the Summer Party - a fun day out out for pop culture lovers, with cosplay, K-Pop dance crews, games and more to be held at Musgrave Park on 16 February.
Another top event, Firestorm, will be held at SunPAC on 23 February and is a special concert experience showcasing an original multi-mode performance developed during the BrisAsia Intercultural and Interdisciplinary Arts Residency. It will feature performers from Singapore, India, South Korea, and Australia.
The 2019 festival includes Lunar New Year celebrations in Fortitude Valley’s Chinatown Mall on Saturday 9 February and Sunday 10 February. The mall will turn red and gold for good fortune and joy as Brisbane heralds in the Year of the Pig. This is the most important date in the Chinese and Asian calendar with a vibrant mix of traditional Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese dances, cultural performances, firecrackers and hands-on workshops. In a nutshell - this vibrant three week festival is an opportunity for locals to enjoy the rich culture and atmosphere of traditions that celebrate Brisbane’s cultural diversity.
