Spanish Baroque: Brandenburg & Circa
Qpac
An unbeatable fusion of music, acrobatics and circus disciplines will thrill audiences when Spanish Baroque: Brandenburg and Circa hits the QPAC Concert Hall on Tuesday, 16 May.
After a sell-out Helpmann Award-winning collaboration in 2015 (with French Baroque), the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and contemporary circus troupe, Circa, reunite for Spanish Baroque, which is created by Artistic Directors Paul Dyer and Yaron Lifschitz. We’re promised the concert will be brimming with passion, power and virtuosity.
Says Dyer, “The music is going to be bold and it is going to be sensual.” With Lifschitz adding, “After the beauty and elegance of French Baroque, I wanted to elicit earthy, powerful flavours in Spanish Baroque.”
Dyer was inspired by the Brandenburg’s ARIA Award-winning CD, Tapas, for the feisty musical core of the show – with plenty of percussion, guitar and theorbo, along with violin bravado and music by Albéniz, Merula, Murcia, Martinez and more. Themes of earth, love, death and rebirth are present, with Lifschitz asking performers to channel archetypes such as the bull, the virgin, and the upside-down man… and putting them into conflict inside a bull ring.
It’s sure to be a hot-blooded night where the beating rhythms and vigorous acrobatic moves will wow all who see it.
