Queensland Pops Orchestra: Best Of British
Concert Hall Qpac
It’s as British as Her Majesty or bangers and mash, so Anglophiles should get their fill of the Best of British with Queensland Pops Orchestra, at QPAC Concert Hall, May 5.
It’s the Queensland Pops Orchestra’s ‘flagship’ concert series and is eagerly anticipated each year, just like London’s popular Last Night of the Proms concerts which have inspired them.
This year you’ll be treated to the impressive vocal talents of Aussie singers, soprano Elizabeth Lewis and bass-baritone Sam Hartley, along with BBC Pipes and Drums, Watkins Academy of Irish Dance and 100 voices from the Resonance of Birralee and Toowoomba Contemporary Choral.
Think of these concerts as a ‘fun-filled music hall version’ of the best of British music throughout the ages. Audience members can don fancy dress, wave flags and sing along so it’s all jolly good fun. Of course, you can’t have a Best of British without Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No 1 (think Land of Hope and Glory) and there’s also Hubert Parry’s Jerusalem, as well as opera and theatre standards, with maestro Patrick Pickett bandying his conducting baton with aplomb.
Best of British has been delighting Brisbane audiences for over 30 years, so if you’re yet to see what the fuss is about, don’t delay as tickets will sell bloomin’ fast. You can also check out the Queensland Pops Orchestra’s two and three concert packages for other highly entertaining concerts in 2018.
