The Physics Of Time
Concert Hall Qpac
The final concert in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Journey Through the Cosmos series, The Physics of Time features the hugely popular British TV star and particle physicist, Professor Brian Cox alongside extraordinary musicians in a performance of Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time (Quatuor pour la fin du temps).
QPAC Concert Hall is the place to be on Sunday, 9 November, for this uplifting evening where you’ll be transported into another world by both the music and courtesy of a lecture from Professor Cox, who knows how to talk about complex subjects so that anyone can understand. Topic of the evening is: The Physics of Time.
Messiaen’s transcendent eight-movement quartet (with movement titles such as Abyss of the Birds and Praise to the Eternity of Jesus) will be performed by Jack Liebeck on violin, Zubin Kanga on piano, Li-Wei Qin on cello and Paul Dean on clarinet.
The landmark 20th century work is remarkable not least because it was written by devout Catholic, Messiaen, while he was a prisoner in a WWII German concentration camp and contemplating the Apocalypse as described in the Book of Revelation. He composed it for himself and three fellow musician prisoners and it premiered in 1941 to prisoners and guards.
