Learning To Love Gravity
Brisbane Powerhouse
Learning to Love Gravity is an upside down adventure based on a captivating suburban tale about friendship with a sprinkling of wit, heart and a dash of aerials.
A highlight of Brisbane’s 2015 Anywhere Theatre Festival, this quirky uplifting show by the Vulcana Women’s Circus and new Brisbane-based company Play On Productions, blends theatre and circus seamlessly to create narrative led performances that are set to amaze.
The storyline follows the plight of The Orphan, who, due to an overwhelming fear of the ground, conducts her entire life propped on furniture and hanging from the ceiling. One day while she is awaiting her parents’ return, The Stranger unexpectedly enters her self-imposed world of solitude and an unlikely relationship starts to develop.
As the writer of the show, Alexander Bayliss explains it, the audience can expect 50% play, 20% aerials, 20% fairytale and 10% ‘the floor is made of lava’ and, as, one of the performers describes it, ‘a Disney Pixar film on circus equipment’.
