Gloria

Bille Brown Studio Qtc

Gloria is the latest power-packed production to come out of QTC’s mainstage season of 2014, this time by award-winning Brisbane playwright Elaine Acworth.

The world premiere of this highly charged emotive play stars Matilda Gold award winner Christen O’Leary who has recently dazzled audiences in Bombshells and in her turn as Judy Garland in End of The Rainbow.

Gloria QTC

In Gloria, she plays the role of Gloria Clare, a woman of searing intellect and talent who has led an extraordinary life tinged with tragedy. After leaving small-town Australia for the bright lights of Europe she became an internationally renowned composer and singer, finding success and love but with an underlying dark shadow of the baby son she was forced to give up for adoption in the 1970s as an unwed mother.

Now in the her 50’s, hit by a stroke and marred by a faltering memory, she is forced to recount the ups and downs of her life, the loves gained and lost as she attempts to heal old scars before darkness sets in and her memories and past have slipped away. To help her recall her painful times she uses music and forges a reconnection with her long lost son Ned and his family, like all things she’s achieved in her life - her way.

Gloria QTC

Supporting Christen in her role as Gloria are a sterling cast that includes Kevin Spink who featured in the cast of recent smash hit Macbeth , Steven Rooke and Naomi Price who has wowed audiences most recently in Wrecking Ball and as Adele in Rumour has it: Sixty Minutes Inside Adele.

The whole thing comes together under the masterful direction of multi-award-winning David Bell (End of the Rainbow, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, The Threepenny Opera, The Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, Don Giovanni), making for a moving and unforgettable night at the theatre.
