Anniversary Exhibition Of Excellence
Red Hill Gallery
Help Brisbane's iconic Red Hill Gallery celebrate its 30th anniversary, with the Anniversary Exhibition of Excellence running until 25 September.
All year, the renowned gallery that hosts works from locally and internationally renowned artists has been celebrating 30 years since its opening, culminating in this special exhibition.
On hand will be works from artists such as Jamie Boyd, Mel Brigg, Regina Noakes, John Maitland, David Hart, Conchita Carambano, John Beeman, Bill Powell and Dean Rusling. If you’re not familiar with their highly praised and collectable work, the exhibition is a great place to start what will sure to be a long acquaintance.
But it’s the Red Hill Gallery itself that’s also the focus of this milestone event, with its charming little red building in Musgrave Road that’s over a century old now established as part of the Brisbane landscape and art community. Built in the early 1900s by the Whitehouse family to house their famous organ business, the property has had businesses occupying it as diverse as a confectionary manufacturer, sound studio and printing press.
Now, the Red Hill Gallery owners, Graham and Margaret Campbell-Ryder – who purchased it in 1998 – have an enviable reputation for showing wonderful paintings, handmade glass, sculptures, jewellery and ceramics.
Says Graham, “Regardless of what business you’re in, if you don’t provide excellent service from start to finish, then you won’t stand the test of time.” That’s a sentiment they obviously live and breathe.
