Green Papaya
East Brisbane
GREEN PAPAYA HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED IN 2015.
Balinese and Thai cuisine face off at this stylishly converted corner shop restaurant and both come out on top.
Polished wooden floors, crisp linen tablecloths and a warm minimalist open plan interior set the scene here for an Asian feast. Of the two cuisines, the Balinese menu is the more compact, with offerings such as Rendang Sapi (beef rending) with roti and Ayam Cincance Bali (chicken coconut curry) with yellow rice or Pulut Hitam (black sticky rice with coconut cream and sugar).
Thai wise, there's the usual suspects, cooked with a flourish – Chu Chee , red, green and penang curries, Pad Thai and roast duck, along with specials of the day.
And despite the refined ambience and linen tablecloths this is a child friendly restaurant, with a separate children's menu offering an extra mild kids coconut-infused mild curry of chicken and veges, a modified Pad Thai and, to keep the fast food fans happy, 'Kentucky Thai' – bite-sized crumb chicken pieces with dipping sauce.
