Brisbane To Gold Coast
Cycle Challenge
Dedicated cyclists of all ages and fitness levels are invited to join the peloton for the annual Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge taking place on Sunday October 15, with the Heart Foundation again being this year's beneficiary.
The 100km challenge, Queensland's largest event of this nature, starts at South Bank and travels exclusively through 17km of Brisbane's bus way lanes, before meandering through scenic rural, farming regions south of Brisbane, and coasting down to Southport through the picturesque waterside suburbs of Hope Island and Runaway Bay.
For riders that are not able to undertake the full event, there is a 60km option that starts from Logan, ideal for those who would prefer to pedal a lesser distance.
On the day, riders will assemble at the starting line in their nominated speed category, with the first group beginning their journey at 5.15am, and others following progressively until 6am. Whilst it is important to remember that this event is not a race, participants do need to be able to commit to an average speed of 17km an hour.
Known for being Brisbane's biggest and best one-day bike ride, B2GC is about more than just raising money. It is about reaching personal targets, sharing an experience with friends, and celebrating the wellbeing that comes with living a healthy, active, cycling lifestyle.
This year's B2GC will see more women involved with the introduction of female cycling ambassadors such as cycling enthusiast and 2018 Commonwealth Games organiser, Cathy Peel. In total, there will be 7 female ambassadors who will be staggered throughout different speed categories, giving every-day riders the chance to ride alongside a role model who shares a similar philosophy to active living.
Nice to know - There are two rest stops along the course for riders to recharge and refuel, with mobile mechanical assistance for those who may need to make some running repairs. Toilets are available at each rest stop, as well as there being access to public toilets en route. There is no minimum fundraising target to achieve as part of your involvement.
Need to know - Entry to the event doesn't automatically include membership to Bicycle Queensland (BQ members receive personal injury and third-party liability insurance). All riders should be aware of what their personal health insurance offers, and consider becoming a BQ member.
