Drawing Machines
Ipswich Art Gallery
Drawing Machines is an intriguing interactive exhibition that allows children to investigate drawing, mechanical movement and energy in a fun environment.
The exhibition has been designed especially for school children, who can get hands-on and experimenting with things they wouldn’t normally have access to, such as turning cogs, swinging pendulums and spinning discs.
Amongst the machines are a giant pendulum that harnesses energy to create unique curves, as well as mechanical chickens and mice, which make frenzied marks, such as dots, dashes and lines.
As the children get to play with them they learn about movement, energy and patterns and that there is a lot more to the machines than meets the eye.
Kids can swing the pendulum table and see magic spirals appear or experiment with a giant Spirograph to create large geometric designs.
Need to know - There is also a special Drawing Machines area dedicated especially for bubs and toddlers aged 6 months to 3 years.
