Sanctuary Cove

Film buffs can enjoy a free evening of cinema in SE Qld’s most spectacular setting at the 3rd annual Sanctuary Film Festival on Nov 25-26.

In 2017, the popular event steps up a notch with the debut of a free all-day carnival-like extravaganza on Saturday, featuring roving entertainment, workshops and a unique kids film festival, culminating in a showcase of 14 thought-provoking short films by talented emerging Australian and international filmmakers.

Sanctuary Film Festival

A BAFTA Los Angeles winner and Australian Academy Awards nominee, New South Wales filmmaker, producer and actor Julian Ramundi’s short film Gone will be amongst the films screened at the event.

The film was selected from more than 15,000 entries as one of 50 semi-finalists for the Your Film Festival – a global film competition conducted by Ridley Scott, Michael Fassbender, Google, Emirates and the Venice Film Festival.

On Saturday kids can channel their Hollywood actor during the Star In A Film workshop, or try their hand at creating looks both ghoulish and glamorous at the Special FX Make-Up session, hosted by a professional artist. Workshops will be held each day between 12 noon & 4pm.

From 4pm to 5pm, families will enjoy a special selection of animated films just for young ones, before the red carpet is rolled out for the headline short films from 7pm.

Then it’s time to relax under the stars and be transported to cinematic worlds as the works of talented short filmmakers are showcased on the big outdoor screen until 9pm.

Nice to know - A total of 30 films across varying categories including feature films, shorts and documentaries have been shortlisted by the Sanctuary Film Festival. The festival is the brainchild of Mike Goldman and Bianca Zouppas.

Need to know -To add a touch of glamour, a limited number of VIP tickets are available for $80 each, including exclusive red-carpet entry to the short film festival along with drinks and canapés on Saturday Nov 25 from 6.30-10.30pm, as well as free entry to the documentary and feature showing at Illusions Theatre Sanctuary Cove on Sunday, November 26.
