Twice a year during the Lifeline Bookfest bibliophiles and bargain hunters descend on the Convention Centre bearing suitcases, shopping trolleys and supermarket bags and fill them to the brim with pre-loved books on every subject ever invented.
Whether or not they go on to read them all is another matter but who cares if the history of the Mephisto war tank or horny backed toad costs two dollars? Besides which they can always be donated to a good cause like next year's fair.
But it's not all obscurity – get here early, dig deep and search long and it's possible to unearth out-of-print gems nobody thought were still in existence.
And no matter what the interest there's a genre to match here. It's a particularly good source of children's books both contemporary and classic and being a biannual event provides the perfect opportunity to keep children's libraries updated for a steal.
