Fitz & Potts
Fitz and Potts is a bright retro character-filled Nundah rooftop bar that has a fantastic community vibe and encapsulates all that is good about Brisbane.
Located on a Nundah village street corner, Fitz and Potts occupies the postwar flat above Slightly Twisted Espresso Lounge and comprises a labyrinth of funky nanna style rooms with a wraparound astroturf roof garden.
Inside Fitz and Potts, the rooms, adorned with macramé and shell hangings, fringed lamps, antique side tables and wallpaper have kept their original features like ornate cornices, polished floors and frosted glass window panes.
Meanwhile the roof garden, which has its own bamboo bar, is awash with 1970s patio furniture, pot plants, pink flamingos and beach umbrellas and even has a stingless bee hive.
The driving force behind Fitz and Potts are the delightful Brett and Cassie, two ex-teachers whose warm larger than life personalities permeate the place and each visitor is welcomed like a guest into their home.
The dynamic duo have created what would have to be the Brisbane bar where you can have the most fun whilst subscribing to sound eco and sustainability principles. The entire drinks list is curated from boutique Australian breweries, distilleries and winemakers and the food menu sourced from local producers, (images of which are intermittently projected onto a rooftop screen to enhance connectivity between consumers and growers). Also showing on the rooftop movie screen are silent movies – classic blasts from the past such as The Breakfast Club and Risky Business – which form a moving picture backdrop with no sound.
Drinks-wise, 6 local craft beers are available on tap and cocktails feature a daily list – check the board behind the bar - with choices like Mojito, Sloe Gin and Vermouth Martini, Espresso Martini, Whisky Sour and Spiked HRVST St Fresh Juice. Of the non-alcoholic thirst-quenching options, there’s a range of CAPI sodas, HRVST St juices and coffee is brewed downstairs by the experts at Slightly Twisted Refreshment Lounge and couriered upstairs to the customer.
All day grazing is available in the form of Bar Snacks such as olives, edamame, fried guindillas de Ibarra (small sweet chillies) and soft pretzels. House specialty at Fitz and Potts are the Jaffles, which are freshly toasted Mexican style and come in Brunch form or all day fillings with a choice of gourmet meats or cheeses, grilled vegetables and are served with chutney and potato chips.
Pies are sourced from the award-winning The Goat Pie Guy, based up the road in Sandgate and a selection of Share Plates are almost a meal in themselves. Try The Fitz – 3 gourmet cured meats, Pickle Head pickles, red onion. Olives. Cheese, chutney and sourdough or The Potts – grilled marinated vegetables, torfuky smoked slices, smoked almonds, marinated tempeh, dolmades onion jam, dip of the day and sour dough. Or MYO, with a choice of 3 meats, cheeses and accompaniments.
Brunch Boards are a great way to start the day and come in 3 forms – The Continental – bagel, black pudding, boiled egg, prosciutto, soft cheese, cheddar, onion jam, pickles, tomato and rocket, The Cheese Fest or The Vegan.
From Friday to Sunday between 11-1, check out the Fitz and Potts Brunch Specials – a choice of Avo on Toast or Breakfast Jaffle combine with a Mimosa, Bloody Mary or Beer.
Need to know – Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join their owners on the roof terrace (on-leash).
