Powerkids, Brisbane's annual children's festival is here to liven up the winter holidays with a fantastic line up of live theatre, circus, workshops, activities and free entertainment for kids of all ages at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

With a 10 day 'My Hero' themed programme that's too action packed to list everything that is going on, here are some of the highlights you won't want to miss:

The Empty City – A whimsical blend of theatre and animation to the strains of a ukulele tell the story of Tom and his Mum who are in the city shopping when everyone disappears, leaving only their shoes. Derived from the award-winning book The Empty City by David Megarrity and Jonathon Oxlade. Jun 25-Jul 3 $21-$24

Argus – Using only household objects and four pairs of hands, The Dead Puppet Society presents this poignant and funny tale about a fragile little creature searching for a home in a world he doesn't fit in. Jun 26-30 $21-$24.

Kaput! – This riotous high octane show from Circus Oz star Tom Flanagan mixes acrobatics and silent movie slapstick inspired comedy, making its debut on the Brisbane stage after acclaimed Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringe seasons. Jul 2-4 $21-$24

Workshops – Opportunities to create, experiment, learn and play abound, with the return of past festival faves Kids In The Kitchen, Clay Animation, Little Journo, Powervocals, and Rockwall joining new workshops Up & Away Video Play, Action Series, Dziah Yoga Dance, Sweet Treats, and Puppet Play Workshop. Jun 25-Jul 5 $5-$70

Free Activities – Take advantage of the multitude of free activities that are on offer throughout Powerkids. Read stories and sing in The Book Nook, grab a bite and create a masterpiece in the Crayon Cafe, make something unique at Trashy Treasures or get photos taken dressed as a superhero with the Paparazzi Press. Free Events – Families can bring a picnic and watch some daily free entertainment, including Network Ten's Totally Wild, Scope, and Wurrawhy, along with Lissa and Nee Nee and King of the Kids. Jun 25-Jul 5
