The Scandinavian Festival brings together Brisbane's communities from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Estonia for a fabulous one day street festival in Newstead.
Taking over Austin St, the secret heartland of The Danish Club, will be some 50 Scandinavian markets stalls offering a virtual smorgasbord of traditional food (Swedish meatballs and hot dogs, Danish pastries, cakes and bread, Estonian delicacies, Finnish Karelian pies and cinnamon buns), drinks (Somersby Cider, Carlsberg Beer, Iced Tea and lemonade), unique fashion, kids clothing, vintage furniture, jewellery (including upcycled LEGO pieces), arts, crafts and design.
Real Vikings will be roaming the festival to meet and greet visitors and demonstrate their crafts, there’ll be fun kitschy all day entertainment on stage (including Baltic choir, Danish folk dancing, Finnish male singers, Fiddle Groups, Accordian players and Kupaleja - traditional Nordic music for listening and dance ).
Meanwhile the Danish Club will be open for a cool beer and some traditional smorrebrod. And for children, there’s the famous LEGO Play Centre, Createry Yarn Lounge, a Viking painting studio, Swedish floorball and games to keep them entertained.
Also not to be missed is the legendary raffle, with over 50 prizes to be won.
Nice to know - Now in its fifth year, this is already one of Brisbane’s most popular multicultural festivals and one not to be missed.
