Scandinavian Festival
Brisbane
The Scandinavian Festival brings together Brisbane's communities from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Estonia for a fabulous one day festival in Bowen Hill's Perry Park.
Some 50 Scandinavian markets stalls will offer a virtual smorgasbord of traditional food (Swedish meatballs, bake potatoes and cinnamon buns, Danish pastries, cakes and bread, Estonian BBQ skewers and delicacies, Finnish Bullar, Karelian pies and goodies and Norwegian salmon and waffles), unique fashion, kids clothing, jewellery (including upcycled LEGO pieces), Scandinavian Christmas decorations, arts, crafts and design.
Pop up bars including the Finnish, Danish and Estonian Community Bars will be offering a range of Finnish and Danish beers and soft drinks.
Real Vikings will be roaming the festival to meet and greet visitors and demonstrate their crafts, there’ll be fun kitschy all day entertainment on stage (including Baltic choir, Danish folk dancing, Finnish male singers, Fiddle Groups, Accordien players and Kupaleja - traditional Nordic music for listening and dance ).
Meanwhile for children, there’s the famous LEGO Play Centre, a Viking painting studio, Swedish floorball and games to keep them entertained.
There'll also be an IKEA flat pack battle (in which 2 couples will go head to head to see who can built a flat pack the fastest) and not to be missed is the legendary raffle, with over 50 prizes to be won.
Need to know - Having outgrown its traditional home in Austin St Newstead, the Brisbane Scandinavian Festival has moved to Perry Park, Bowen Hills since 2017.
Nice to know - Now in its eighth year, this is one of Brisbane’s most popular multicultural festivals and one not to be missed.
