Africa Day Festival

Morningside

Celebrate Brisbane's African community at the Africa Day Festival - a day of family friendly cultural activities, food and entertainment at Morningside's African House

The lively colourful festival is a showcase of African music, dance, food, art and crafts and clothing as well as activities for kids and workshops such as African drumming.

Moorooka Festival

Tuck into some delicious traditional foods from Sudan, Ethiopia and Eritrea, browse the market stalls, participate in a drumming woirkshop and watch an extravaganza of African entertainment - music and dance - on stage, with the contagious upbeat tunes of Afropop drawaing the crowds onto the dance floor as the festival draws to a close.

There's also a Fashions on the Field event, showcasing the most fabulous and exotic African fashion and accessories, with prizes (African lace and ankara cloths) for best dressed. Entrants must be wearing at least one African element to their outfit.

And over at the Youth Hub, Open Mic sessions will be held, with the chance for young African Australians to sing, act, recite poetry as well as spoken word performances and engaging monologues.

Need to know: African House is at the top of Balmoral Park hill.
