Summit Track

Updated: Sep 30, 2021

Mt Coolum Summit Track is one of the most popular treks on the Sunshine Coast, renowned not only for its challenging climb to the summit but also for its stunning panoramic views over the coast and hinterland.

Located ninety minutes drive north of Brisbane, between Caloundra and Noosa, Mt Coolum is hard to miss; rising 208m above sea level. Created 26 million years ago, this ancient volcanic dome is well-travelled today, especially at sunrise and sunset.

From the carpark, the walk starts pleasant enough through native bush before beginning to ascend. The trek to the top consists of a series of steps, both man-made and natural, including one very steep section. Small glimpses of the ocean keep you motivated.

Physically challenging and heart-pounding, this is a rewarding walk with one of the best views on the Sunshine Coast, with Point Cartwright and the Glass House Mountains to the south, the Blackall Range to the west, and Noosa Heads to the north.
