Raven St Reserve Walk

In summer this bush and heathland, which is part of the landscape mosaic of the Mountain to Mangroves nature corridor, makes a wonderfully breezy retreat. Yet the best time to visit is late winter when everything is in bloom and it becomes a bush flower wonderland.

Better still it’s an easy hour long stroll - no need for Kathmandu footwear here – along interconnecting paths leading through groves of statuesque grass trees (Xanthorrhoea), gold candlestick banksias and cloudlike lemon acacias.

Early risers may be rewarded for their effort with shy swamp wallabies in the gullies and the visiting scarlet honeyeater which shows itself at this time of year to the patient and the lucky.

There are a handful of benches and a picnic table dotted along the way and play equipment and barbecuing facilities and a little kids playground back at the main entrance. Also in this vicinity are the short-looped wheelchair accessible Senses Trail with signs written in Braille and adjacent is the Downfall Creek Bushland Centre, a hive of information for those who wish to learn more.
