Ah Xian: Naturephysica

Children's Art Centre

Ah Xian: Nature Physica is an interactive project at the GOMA Children’s Arts Centre that was developed in collaboration with Ah Xian, a renowned Chinese-Australian painter and sculptor based in Sydney.

Through a range of especially designed multimedia and hands-on activities, children and their families can get to engage with Ah Xian’s ideas and artworks and harness their own creativity.

Ah Xian: Nature Physica

Taking inspiration from the artist’s ‘Metaphysica’ sculptures, with each sculptural bust adorned with an object that appeals to the realm of dreams and thoughts, children get to create their own self-portrait while discovering the meaning of traditional Chinese symbols.

They can also partake in a multimedia activity in which they explore ideas about patterns as their bodies are decorated with projections of landscapes from both China and Australia as well as floral patterns.
